Who is Jordi Boggiano?

Programmer and geek mostly, trying to remain human the rest of the time. I’m also a world class procrastinator, not helped by the tendency to start too many projects at the same time. I love music and spend most of my day blasting my ears off.

Why Symfony2?

Two things matter in the choice of a framework, the code quality and the community. Symfony 2 is the best compromise in that regard I believe. Also it’s new and will be in alpha/beta stage for the most part of this year, so it gives me time to try it out and help fix what bothers me before it becomes stuck in the too common backwards compatibility issue.

What does your typical day look like?

Waking up or rather trying to, tram to work, coding, tram back, more coding, going to bed too late. Ah and some food too.

What do you do in your free time?

Spending time with my girlfriend, more coding, trying various beers, concerts and traveling sometimes.

Current favorite apps?

SublimeText as an editor, foobar2000 to listen to music, the Opera browser, Cygwin to have some great bits of Linux in Windows.

What OS do you prefer?

Windows for the desktop environment and great apps, Linux for servers and command line work.

Small picture for your Workplace?

Home office blurry cellphone pic attached.

Favorite: Language (PHP, Ruby ..), JS Framework?

Most of my programming time is spent with PHP, but as a language I don’t particularly like it, I just know it well and it gets the job done. I also code in ActionScript 3, the Flash language, and while Flash itself is not very popular and I can’t say I always love how it’s used, the language is really awesome, it has most of the flexibility that JavaScript does but is more polished and offers a proper object model as well as strict typing. As for JavaScript, that I obviously use quite a lot as well, I’m a big jQuery fan since it’s so powerful, I wish YUI would build great widgets on top of it rather than try to compete at the low level and omitting lots of useful features.

Name something that has inspired you recently?

I already got a hard time with the “Who are you?” question, this one is beyond me sorry :)

What do you prefer (and why)? Freelance work or full time employment?

Both have good sides really, I don’t like having to deal with clients too much, but I also have problems being in the office “early” in the morning, I’d love a full time job where I can code during the night.

What are your personal projects and goals for 2010?

Finishing something, anything, I’m just tired of repeating the unfinished-geek-project pattern over and over again. Also I want to learn more about usability and interaction design since it’s – wrongly so – a much overlooked aspect of building things by the developer community at large.
