Who is Eva-Lotta Lamm?

I’m a designer – currently doing interaction design for Skype by day and doing lots of other little things the rest of the time… currently I’m working with a fashion designer friend to update the graphics for her boutique that is reopening in March, I am learning processing and I do action theater (a form of improvisation) once a week.

Do you have a personal Brand?

Hmmm, no. I’m quite happy about my name though, because people tend to remember it.

How do you find design inspiration and colours for a new project?

I get inspiration from the problem at hand and the constraints it presents. I really love solving problems and working within certain boundaries.

Visually, I am an omnivore…. from magazines, prints, websites, to street art, the view out of my window, exhibitions and packaging, there is interesting stuff to be found everywhere. It’s about looking at the details.

What does your typical day look like?

I get up between 7 and 8, have a look at my emails and tweets, get ready for work to be at the office around 9. Work days are a mixture of thinking, sketching, mapping, wireframing, discussing, filing bugs, reviewing designs and having a laugh with colleagues.

What do you do in your free time?

Spending time with people I like, going for walks, travelling, improvising, seeing exhibitions, going to interesting talks, getting lost in my RSS feeds, cooking with my boyfriend and normal things like this.

Current favorite apps?

dropBox, Spotify, iPlayer (does that count as an app?)… and on the iPhone, I like silly little things that make me smile like Talking Carl or Petit Dummy.

What OS do you prefer?

Mac OS.

Small picture for your Workplace?

A small details of my workspace: my mac keyboard… as I had a PC for quite a while, the position of the command keys for shortcuts is kind of hardwired into my head… so I changed the position of the CMD, ALT and CTRL keys on my mac… and the the other keys are covered to force me reach one of my 2010 goals (keep reading and you’ll know what I mean :).

Favorite: Color, Font, Language, JS Framework?

  • Black.
  • I don’t have a specific one as there are so many lovely fonts out there, but the Thesis by Luc de Groot is a classic.
  • French ;)
  • I leave the coding to the experts nowadays, but jQuery is a nice and easy way to mock up quick prototypes.

Name something that has inspired you recently?

The last things that really impressed me really were the “Life” nature documentary series on the BBC and the beautiful portraits of animals by Andrew Zuckerman.

What do you prefer (and why)? Freelance work or full time employment?

I haven’t been freelancing for a while now. I like working with a team of designers around me and I wanted to work on a product over a longer period if time, so at the moment I’m happy being a full time inhouse designer.

What are your personnel projects and goals for 2010?

One of my small personal goals is to learn touch typing. I am alright at hitting the right keys already, but I am still awfully slow. Apart from that: do lots of interesting things and be a happy person.
